Dear Upper School Families,
I hope you all had a nice week. What a wonderful performance by our Middle and Upper School students last Friday and Saturday evening. Thanks to Drama teacher Stephanie Offutt and all the students and parent volunteers who made The Good Doctor a huge success.
Please note that interims are due to me by the teachers on Tuesday, November 18. Only students receiving a C- or below in a course will receive an interim. I hope to have the interims in the mail by close of business Wednesday. Please also note that the grades 9 and 10 students will be taking the Explore and PLAN tests, respectively, on Friday, November 21 (a half day).
Have a nice weekend.

It’s been a busy week in Upper School. Sports practices began, we held a mock election, the juniors and seniors visited McLean Bethesda, the grade eight students began their visits to our classrooms, and the thespians have been working hard to put on their show, The Good Doctor.
On Monday, the grade 9 and 10 students will have the opportunity to visit the new campus (the students should have come home with permission slips). Any junior or senior who did not go to the new campus and would like to is welcome to come on Monday.
Have a nice weekend.

Here are the tallies: The Sophomores came out on top with the total number of points for Spirit Week and the Juniors and Seniors raised over $800 between the yard sale and car wash, respectively, to benefit the Prom. Thanks to all of you who donated items for the yard sale. We had wonderful spirit week. It was truly a team effort.

Dear Upper School Families,
We have had an exciting Spirit Week in Upper School. Lots of fun was had by all at the pumpkin design contest, the relay races, and the Halloween parade. We ate and drank lots of goodies including hot cocoa, Fractured Prune donuts, milkshakes, root beer floats, Baskin Robbins sundaes, and Halloween goodies. After Friday’s concert, flag football games and Homecoming Dance, we will tally all the points to see which class wins.
Have you noticed the added feature of holidays in our weekly Broadcast email? We have included these holidays in an effort to affirm the religious/spiritual practices of all members of our McLean community. This recognition enriches our community and encourages our students to be better leaders and more responsible citizens.
Thanks again to the Parents Association for providing the Baskin Robbins sundaes. The students and faculty, myself included, are truly appreciative.
Have a great weekend.

Josephine Diemond

WINTER CONCERT CHANGE We would like to provide the opportunity for both Middle and Upper School families to enjoy performances by our grades 7-12 students by combining the concerts and performing together. This combined Winter Concert will be held on Thursday, December 11 at 6:30 pm. Students in both divisions are excited about the opportunity because they will perform their own music, and then perform a few pieces of music together. We hope you will enjoy a variety of vocal and instrumental music spanning from classical to jazz. Music Department Chair Greg Mugione
LLOYD THACKER TO SPEAK ON COLLEGE ADMISSIONS On Thursday, October 23 at 7:30 pm, Lloyd Thacker of The Education Conservancy will speak at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda. The topic is “College Admissions: Take Control!” High school students and parents from both the public and private school communities are welcome to attend. He will advise students and parents on how to take control of the college application process so that it benefits THEIR needs. The Education Conservancy works with students, high schools and colleges to overcome commercial interference in college admissions and to reduce the anxiety and misinformation that plagues contemporary college admissions. A suggested donation of $5 for individuals/$10 for families is suggested. Questions? Contact Sandy Lederman, at sglederman@aol.com
