The first grade classes hosted a visit from grade 1 teacher Mrs. Alice Epstein’s son, Harry, who spoke to the children about living with blindness. The children saw many accommodative devices that help Mr. Epstein go about his day: a special watch, a talking cell phone, a crowing alarm clock, his cane, a stylus for writing Braille and more! Mr. Epstein also brought samples of Braille writing that he left for the first grade classrooms. The children asked fantastic questions about strategies for living with blindness. We hope Mr. Epstein will return when he receives and trains his seeing eye dog later in the year. His message of trying and never giving up was a positive one for our new school year.
