Darrien Tucker

PE teacher, all-around coach, semi-pro football champ

Darrien balanced school and sports as a three-season athlete in college. Today he teaches—and practices— valuable time-management lessons at McLean.

On a typical day, Darrien teaches five PE classes. After school, he coaches cross country in the fall, girls’ basketball in the winter, and track and field in the spring.

Come weekends, he takes to the field for some serious play. As co-captain of the Frederick Outlaws, “Tuck” has led the semi-pro football team to two league championships.

His biggest victory? Making sure all students—not just the natural athletes— improve and compete. “Mastering the basics makes even the best athletes stronger,” he says.

McLean’s inclusive approach to sports gives Tucker a competitive edge, too. “Teaching to all skill levels also makes me a better teacher.”
